WHAT HAPPENS IN AN INITIAL CONSULTATION?

Initial Consultation

At Essence Osteopathy, we believe in treating the whole person and not just the symptoms. We approach each patient with a whole-body mindset and work with them to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses their unique needs and goals.

What happens in an initial consultation?

On arrival your osteopath will sit with you and talk about the details of your complaint, ask you a number of questions and any history that may have occurred beforehand, they want to understand as much as they can to ascertain the causal factors. They will also need to give special consideration to certain health conditions to either rule out further investigation or better manage your complaint and treatment plan and as such will ask about your past medical history. After they understand more about the onset and details of your case, they will give you a thorough musculoskeletal examination including postural and static assessment and movement-based tests.

If necessary, they will perform neurological or orthopedic tests. The information gathered will help them to formulate a treatment plan and decide which style and techniques of treatment will be most effective for your particular condition.

Treatment can now begin.

In some cases, you may be given things to do at home if your osteopath feels it will help progress your condition. Some people will need repeated treatment to progress treatment of their complaint and some people will recover relatively quickly and need minimal treatment, this depends on the complaint itself, and its severity.
